EDIT: FIGURED IT OUT. Someone is selling this as a “1950s Utility Trailer” on the CL. It looks like the back half of a truck with a vintage utility body. Does anyone recognize the body and/or what it was mounted to?
I wonder how much work it would be to turn this into a teardrop style camper trailer...
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Looks like it is the back half of an old Bell Systems service truck. Still don’t know what chassis it is on, but the one hubcap looks most like a Dodge(though the step doesn’t match).
Now I want the thing even more. no idea what I’d do with it though.

That would make an awesome off-road camper.

I cheated; I clicked on the ad to check it out. There it says:
1950 Gmc

Not a factory GMC body though ,so that may have just been put there to fill the boxes.

You’re right. The fenders aren’t even a match. The only thing that’s GMC anymore is probably the axle and (chopped) frame. Not much left to recognize.

I saw ford and GMC with similar beds - probably made by an outside supplier, so who knows what the frame came from.

for midgets, or little people, or.... I don’t know how they want to be called anymore.

As for filling the boxes, “GMC” sounds oddly specific (and is therefore probably accurate).
I know from personal experience that when referring to my 1995 GMC Sierra, “’95 Chevy truck” just rolls off the tongue so much easier when I go to the parts store. But I would absolutely use the proper nomenclature if I was trying to sell it.

That’s pretty cool, but I think it would be way more work to turn it into a teardrop camper than it would be worth.

no, just like a tear drop style camper where inside is literally only a bed

Probably. At the moment I mostly want it because it is a neat thing. The camper was just rationalizing that it isn’t a terrible idea.

It is a cool little trailer. I’d want it too.

Yeah, if this is the look you wanted, you’d be better off fabricating a new teardrop from scratch that copies the general exterior appearance.

But it doesn't look long enough

I’m currently researching camper conversions. I just sold my hybrid camper, and I was so disgusted with the build quality of factory made campers, that I’m going to convert a big cargo trailer for my next one. In the process of all that research I’ve read about several home built teardrop campers. It’s ludicrously easy to build those from scratch.

Maybe. I thought it looked looking enough for me, definitely wouldn’t work for really tall people

hi all. I just picked up the same model service body at beginning of this year . from what ive came across they date from 1948-1952. theres an original bell customer service video ,circa 1950, on youtube, that starts out with a technician working out of the back of one of these service trucks. Im building an overland expedition camper out of mine. Forget sleeping in it... sleep on top, im a big fan of roof top tents. I just linex'ed my trailer in desert tan. cheers all

I bought this one, and it a mystery model. The tag inside says 1960, but from my research York-Hoover sold of the service body division in 1958.
I also still don’t know what chassis it is on, as I can’t ID this rearend:
